Welcome to South 40 Beef! We originate from the east coast where John was an executive in the technology world and Kim was a stay-at-home mom, who cared for kids, dogs and horses. About 12 years ago, we purchased land in Mott, North Dakota. John loved pheasant hunting more than anything. He needed a place to hunt and to settle his busy mind and schedule. Over the years, John and Kim became drawn to live out west full time. Once our kids graduated high school, we made the decision to leave the east coast for good. We purchased our first herd of Black Angus cattle and built a state-of-the-art USDA packing plant. We also purchased land in the breathtaking Black Hills of South Dakota. We currently ranch in both North Dakota and South Dakota.
We are passionate about letting folks know that Dakota beef is the best in the world! Our beef is all Dakota bred and raised. We know exactly where our beef comes from! At South 40 Beef, we oversee the entire process from ranch to table. We believe in the American rancher and we support the ranch lifestyle. We are happy to offer custom butchering to our local ranching families. We understand the difficulty in getting your beef processed for your family and we want to help!
